Chuck Palahniuk's novel and David Fincher's 1999 film built a manifesto so quotable it escaped its own satire: 'The first rule of Fight Club is: you do not talk about Fight Club' is now a template applied to everything from startups to sourdough. The irony -- that the film is a warning about exactly the men who quote it admiringly -- is part of its afterlife, acknowledged by both Fincher and Palahniuk.
