William Goldman's fairy tale was a modest box-office performer in 1987 and became a canonical quote-machine on home video. 'As you wish', 'Inconceivable!', and Inigo Montoya's rehearsed vengeance speech are all constructed as repeatable formulas -- the film teaches you its catchphrases by repeating them until the audience joins in. Mandy Patinkin has said the Montoya speech is the line strangers say to him most, every single day.
