Welcome to the family, son.

Behind the line
What it means
Our interpretation.
Jack's idea of hospitality is the game's best joke and its threat in one go: a welcome that is also a claim. Ethan has not been invited into the Baker household, he has been absorbed into it, and the line turns every later meal, trap and chase into family business. Fans quote it with a drawl as a greeting for anyone who has just joined a group, and it sums up the game's mix of horror and Southern-gothic hospitality.

Spoilers for Resident Evil 7: BiohazardShow the scene
In Resident Evil 7: Biohazard (Capcom, 2017) Ethan Winters travels to the Baker family's decaying Louisiana plantation in Dulvey to find his missing wife, Mia. Late in the guest-house and main-house sequence, Ethan defeats the mutated Mia in the attic, only for Jack Baker, the family patriarch, to surprise him, punch him and stomp on his face, knocking him out. Jack drags Ethan and Mia back to the Main House, saying the line over him, while Zoe Baker is seen stapling Ethan's hand back together and urging him not to die. The wiki's unofficial name for the cutscene is "Welcome To The Family".
