The Giant

The owls are not what they seem.

Behind the line

What it means

Our interpretation.

The Giant's riddle holds the show's spirit in one sentence: surfaces lie, and the pretty logging town hides something stranger underneath. It never gets a tidy answer, which is why fans have argued over it for decades and why it is the quote people reach for when a mystery has more going on than it admits. It also stands for Twin Peaks' habit of speaking in riddles.
