You have to break in half to love somebody.

Behind the line

What it means

Our interpretation.

Loving someone, the speaker says, requires being broken open. Real love demands vulnerability, the giving up of defences and self-contained wholeness, and that opening can hurt. The line ties love to a kind of splitting apart, treating pain and surrender as part of caring deeply.
