Behind the line

What it means

Our interpretation.

It is the sound of a build order paying off: a calm, synthetic voice telling you the barracks or power plant you queued is waiting for your click. It is heard in every match, so it became part of the series' audio signature, and later games kept EVA as a recurring character.

Spoilers for Command & ConquerShow the scene

EVA, short for Electronic Video Agent, is the voice of the battlefield computer that talks the commander through every Command & Conquer mission, first heard in Westwood Studios' original game (DOS, September 1995) and voiced there by Kia Huntzinger. 'Construction complete' is her announcement that a structure, bought with Tiberium credits and built from the sidebar, is finished and ready to be placed on the map. It is one of a small set of standing alerts that includes 'Unit lost' and 'Our base is under attack'.
