Take that!

Behind the line

What it means

Our interpretation.

The punch line of the courtroom: after the pause, the evidence goes in and the witness's story collapses. The cry makes presenting a document feel like landing a blow, which is the whole spirit of the series. Fans use it for any triumphant reveal, and meme edits pair it with the lawyers' pointing pose to mark the moment a lie is exposed.

"Take that!" is the shout Phoenix Wright makes when he presents a piece of evidence in Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney (Capcom, Game Boy Advance, 2001), one of the series' three original speech bubbles beside "Objection!" and "Hold it!". The Ace Attorney Wiki says the protagonist generally shouts it while presenting evidence or pointing out a specific detail, and that it is the only one of the three whose voice clips are limited to playable characters. Wright also shouts it when he uses the magatama in the games that feature it. The English version came out on Nintendo DS in October 2005.
