Behind the line
What it means
Our interpretation.
It is the show's cynicism about pop music in one chant: with the planet's survival on the line, what saves Earth is a nonsense word shouted over a beat. Rick delivers it as an order and a vibe at once. Fans took it up as a party cry and a shorthand for Rick's chaotic confidence, and the song became the thing most people remember the episode for.

Spoilers for Rick and MortyShow the scene
In "Get Schwifty" (Rick and Morty, season 2, episode 5, aired August 23, 2015; written by Tom Kauffman, directed by Wes Archer), a giant alien head, a Cromulon, appears over Earth and demands to hear an original song. Rick explains it to the President, but an earthquake at the Grammys has killed almost all of Earth's famous musicians, with Ice-T the only survivor. Rick and Morty improvise a song, and the head is pleased. It drags Earth into an interplanetary talent show where losing planets are destroyed, and the refrain is the song's demand to get schwifty.
