A pain stabbed my heart as it did every time I saw a girl I loved who was going the opposite direction in this too-big world.

Behind the line

What it means

Our interpretation.

Seeing a loved girl travelling in the opposite direction brings the speaker a recurring stab of emotional pain. The world feels too large because affection does not keep their paths together. Physical separation becomes an image of the distance between longing and shared movement.
