Behind the line
What it means
Our interpretation.
Bishop delivers it in the soft, polite voice of a man giving a weather report, and the calm is what makes it land: the group has just run out of time as well as options. The line is used as the classic opener for terrible news, and the scene is where the android Ripley distrusted turns into the one who steps up.
