Behind the line

What it means

Our interpretation.

Three nouns in one deadpan stack sum up Dwight: bears, beets, Battlestar Galactica are the farm, the survivalism and the sci-fi fandom in one breath. Jim's impression works because it is so accurate, which is why Dwight is genuinely offended. It is the show's prank-war at its sharpest and the quote fans reach for to send up a friend's obsessions.

Spoilers for The Office (U.S.)Show the scene

It is the cold open of "Product Recall", season 3, episode 21 of The Office (US), first aired April 26, 2007 and written by Brent Forrester and Justin Spitzer. Jim walks into the Scranton office dressed as Dwight, in glasses found at a drug store for four dollars and an outfit that cost eleven in total, and performs his best Dwight voice, opening with the word fact. Dwight snaps back that identity theft is not a joke and that millions of families suffer every year. Jim calls for Michael and runs to his office.
