Behind the line
What it means
Our interpretation.
It is the moment a broken man, who has spent the season keeping his head down to survive, becomes the voice of a revolt. Because the delivery is so simple, Serkis's rising shout works as a general slogan for escape from any system that wears people down. It also marks Kino as a tragic figure: he leads thousands to freedom and the next scene is his admission that he cannot swim.

In Andor season 1, episode 10, One Way Out (November 9, 2022), the prisoners of Narkina 5 break out of their cell blocks after Cassian Andor convinces Kino Loy to commit to the escape. Kino, played by Andy Serkis, is the day shift manager of Level Five. At the command center on Level Eight, he addresses all 5,000 inmates over the intercom. He tells them the guards killed a hundred men on Level Two, that release means transfer to die, and that the building is theirs. He ends by repeating the words one way out as he leaves, rallying them to climb. Moments later he reaches the edge and admits he cannot swim.
