Romeo and Juliet

William Shakespeare

My bounty is as boundless as the sea, my love as deep; The more I give to thee the more I have, for both are infinite.

Behind the line

What it means

Our interpretation.

Giving usually leaves us with less, but this declaration imagines love working in the opposite way. Generosity deepens the feeling instead of exhausting it. The sea provides a measure so vast that the speaker can describe both the gift and its source as inexhaustible.
