'Wherefore art thou Romeo?' is the most misread line in English drama: wherefore means why, not where -- Juliet is asking why he has to be a Montague, which is why the speech runs straight into 'What's in a name?'. The play gets quoted as pure romance, but Shakespeare salts the love poetry with dread: 'O! I am Fortune's fool' is Romeo realizing, mid-play, that the story has already turned.
