Hamlet · 1602

William Shakespeare

O, from this time forth My thoughts be bloody or be nothing worth!

Behind the line

What it means

Our interpretation.

The speaker resolves that from now on their thoughts must be bloody, or else they are worthless. It is an oath of violent determination, rejecting mere reflection: thinking counts only if it is fierce and ready to turn to bloodshed. The exclamation gives it the heat of a vow.
