Behind the line
What it means
Our interpretation.
The countdown turns a toy top into a duel: three beats of held breath, then everybody lets go at once. It works as a call to commit, which is why fans shout it at the start of anything from a game of Beyblade in the playground to a first pitch at work. It outlived the series it came from because it became the real starting signal of the toy game, and every later Beyblade generation kept it.

The countdown is the launch call of Beyblade, the spinning-top battle anime that began on TV Tokyo on 8 January 2001. Both bladers count down together and then shout the final phrase as they fire their Beyblades into the stadium dish. In Japan the last words are "Go Shoot!"; "Let it rip!" is the English version, heard from the first episode of the English dub, when Tyson launches his Dragoon blade against Billy's blade at a Beystadium. The call recurs in every battle of the three seasons, and it became the official starting signal of the real toy game.
