Behind the line
What it means
Our interpretation.
It is a pure starting-line shout: three words that turn a cartoon opening into a pep rally for a young driver in a car with a button for everything. Fans know it as the song they can sing from the first beat, and the name-and-go chant doubled as a cheer for anyone about to do something fast. It outlived the series through the 2008 remake and the theme's later covers.

Spoilers for Speed RacerShow the scene
The cry belongs to the English theme song of Speed Racer, the American version of Tatsunoko's Mach GoGoGo, which ran on Fuji TV from April 1967 to March 1968 in 52 episodes. Producer Peter Fernandez led the English dubbing and rewriting, voiced both Speed and Racer X, and wrote the English lyrics to Nobuyoshi Koshibe's original tune. The opening plays over the Mach Five tearing around the track, and the chant kicks it off. It is not said in a scene; it recurs at the start of every episode, and an updated version of the theme returned over the end credits of the 2008 film.
