Nietzsche observes, with irony, how persuasive weak music and flimsy arguments become once people are rallying against a common enemy. Conflict flatters everything on its own side: stirring sounds and poor logic alike feel splendid, because enthusiasm for the fight lowers the standards we would normally apply.
