The Enthusiasms of Robertson Davies
Canada is not really a place where you are encouraged to have large spiritual adventures.
Behind the line
What it means
Our interpretation.
The speaker claims that large spiritual adventures receive little encouragement in Canada. The cautious opening, 'not really', softens a broad judgment about a place. Its dry tone comes from describing an expansive kind of inner exploration as something the surroundings do little to encourage.
