Delirium / Dream, The Sandman #43 (1992)

What's the name of the word for the precise moment when you realize that you've actually forgotten how it felt to make love to somebody you really liked a long time ago? / There isn't one. / Oh. I thought maybe there was.

Behind the line

What it means

Our interpretation.

Delirium can describe the feeling with precision while language still fails to give it a name. Dream's short reply leaves the loss uncontained. The small disappointment belongs beside their larger search for someone who has left his old place in the family.

Spoilers for The SandmanShow the scene

Delirium asks Dream this question in The Sandman #43, part three of Brief Lives (1992). The siblings are travelling in search of their missing brother Destruction. Dream answers that there is no such word, and Delirium quietly accepts the absence. The three parts are an exchange between the two siblings, rather than a single speech.
