What it means

Our interpretation.

Andrew Ryan uses these words to draw a brutal line between making a choice and carrying out an order. In BioShock, that distinction challenges the player's sense of control as well as the protagonist's. The line sounds like a declaration of independence, but its scene makes that confidence unsettling. It asks whether the decisions you think are yours really belong to you.
