Behind the line

What it means

Our interpretation.

A flat, businesslike voice announcing the arrival of a slow, enormous flying bomb is what makes it funny and frightening at once. Hearing it from the enemy side means you have a few seconds to build anti-air. Fans of the series keep quoting it for any ominous arrival, in a deadpan accent.

Spoilers for Command & Conquer: Red Alert 2Show the scene

The Kirov airship is the Soviet heavy bomber of Command & Conquer: Red Alert 2, released on 25 October 2000 by Westwood Pacific and Westwood Studios. The unit announces itself with this line when it is built, and the player hears it again each time the Kirov is selected, alongside lines about an acknowledged order and an optimal helium mix. The game's opening shows swarms of Kirovs descending on the United States, though the player does not command them in the Soviet campaign until the Red Revolution mission.
