Behind the line
Spoilers for Fallout
What it means
Our interpretation.
Fallout’s opening narrator introduces a world devastated by nuclear conflict with a grim refrain. Weapons and landscapes change, while the urge to fight survives them. The repetition makes the warning sound weary rather than triumphant. The line returns in later games too; this entry is pinned to the 1997 original, with the spoken pause represented by a period.
