War is where the young and stupid are tricked by the old and bitter into killing each other.
— Grand Theft Auto IV · 2008
Behind the line
What it means
Our interpretation.
Niko describes war as a failure of those who send other people to fight it. His blunt contrast between young combatants and older decision-makers strips away the language of glory. The observation connects his violent experience with distrust of the people who claim to give violence a purpose.
