What it means
Our interpretation.
The Vortigaunt asks Gordon to imagine identity as something shared with others rather than entirely sealed within one person. Hopes, memories and ways of seeing become connections between minds. The unfamiliar voice turns a meeting with an alien into a question about common experience.
