Winner winner chicken dinner!
— PUBG: Battlegrounds ‧ 2017
Behind the line
What it means
Our interpretation.
It is the game's whole reward in five words: after twenty minutes of looting, hiding and running from the shrinking circle, you are the last one standing. The old gambler's toast gave a new genre a victory cry, and players now use it for any win, in any game, on any stream. The phrase has outlived the PUBG craze that made it famous.

Spoilers for PUBG: BattlegroundsShow the scene
In PUBG: Battlegrounds (Krafton and PUBG Corporation, early access 2017), the last player or squad left alive on the island wins the round and is greeted on the victory screen with "Winner winner chicken dinner!" The idiom was not invented for the game: designer Brendan Greene had already used it in his earlier battle royale mods, and he carried it into PUBG. Kotaku traced the older phrase to Depression-era craps games in alleys, where a winner could afford a chicken dinner, and said the popular story of a Las Vegas casino origin was not supported.
