At the bar of the Montenegro casino at night, Bond sits hunched and scowling while a bartender in a white jacket shakes a cocktail, a poker table glowing through the arch beyond.

Behind the line

What it means

Our interpretation.

The signature order, thrown away. This is a Bond who has just lost the money and his temper, and the answer tells the audience the reboot knows the catchphrase and has deliberately walked past it. Fans quote it as a shrug at any fussy choice, and as the moment Craig's Bond stopped performing the legend and started living it.

Spoilers for Casino RoyaleShow the scene

In Casino Royale (2006), Daniel Craig's Bond is at the Casino Royale in Montenegro for the high-stakes poker game against Le Chiffre. He has lost his entire stake after Le Chiffre was tipped off to his tell, and Vesper Lynd, the Treasury agent in charge of the money, refuses to put up another five million. After a sharp argument with her, Bond orders a vodka martini. The bartender asks if he wants it shaken or stirred, and Bond snaps, "Do I look like I give a damn?" Felix Leiter then introduces himself and offers to stake him.
