Behind the line
What it means
Our interpretation.
The speaker firmly rejects a boating accident as the explanation for what has happened. The brief exclamation challenges that account without naming the actual cause. Its force comes from certainty: whatever others may think, the speaker insists that an ordinary accident on the water does not explain it.

Spoilers for JawsShow the scene
Brody and the medical examiner bring the visiting oceanographer Matt Hooper to the morgue to see what is officially Chrissie Watkins's probable boating accident. Hooper reads the report, uncovers her remains, steadies himself with a glass of water, and tells the examiner this was no boating accident. He hammers the point home: not a propeller, not a coral reef, not Jack the Ripper, but a shark, and a far bigger one than normally found in those waters.
