Cut me, Mick!

Behind the line

What it means

Our interpretation.

It is Rocky in one demand: a man who knows he is hurt asks for the pain to be dealt with so he can keep going. The line is shorthand for pushing on past good sense, and it works as a gym motivational chant, a meme caption and a cry in any story about someone refusing to quit.

Spoilers for RockyShow the scene

The title fight in Rocky (1976) between Rocky Balboa and champion Apollo Creed has gone almost the full distance. Between rounds, Rocky's eyes are so swollen that he cannot see, and Apollo has a broken rib. In the corner he orders trainer Mickey Goldmill to open the swelling with a blade. Mickey doesn't want to and says he will stop the fight; Rocky tells him he will not allow that. Mickey cuts him, and Rocky goes out for the fifteenth and final round.
