Thank God for the rain to wash the trash off the sidewalk.

Behind the line
What it means
Our interpretation.
The speaker welcomes rain for its ability to clear trash from the sidewalk. Gratitude is directed toward an ordinary act of washing the city clean. The blunt wording gives that relief an edge, making cleanliness the immediate measure of what the rain offers.
