Selina Kyle

You don't owe these people any more. You've given them everything. / Not everything. Not yet.

— The Dark Knight Rises ‧ 2012

Behind the line

What it means

Our interpretation.

This is Batman's whole story compressed into a few words: every cost paid so far is not enough while there is more to give. Selina offers him the life he never took, and his refusal is the point where Bruce stops running from his role. Fans quote it as a tribute to sacrifice and stubborn loyalty, and it turns up on memorials and goodbyes far from Gotham.
