Once again, things that could've been brought to my attention yesterday!

Behind the line

What it means

Our interpretation.

Robbie's complaint is a pitch-perfect small grievance: abandoned at the altar, he is more annoyed that nobody mentioned it yesterday. The line is a comic overreaction in the face of heartbreak, and it is the film's best example of Sandler's wounded sarcasm. Fans use it any time they hear bad news too late to act on.

Spoilers for The Wedding SingerShow the scene

In The Wedding Singer (1998), Robbie Hart is a New Jersey wedding singer in 1985 about to marry his fiancee Linda. On the wedding day she arrives late and tells him she does not ever want to marry him: she loved the rock-star Robbie from six years earlier, and she has realised she is about to marry a wedding singer. She adds that she will never get out of Ridgefield, and describes the sister's-basement life she sees ahead. Robbie, stung, snaps back with the line. Tim Herlihy wrote the film and Frank Coraci directed.
