This is a widely shared line credited to the American feminist writer and activist Gloria Steinem, but no original source for the exact wording could be confirmed. Some quote sites place it in a 1984 commencement address at Tufts University. Tufts' own commencement history, however, lists Steinem as its speaker in 1987, so the 1984 date looks like a mistake. The line is not tied to a book, interview or speech that could be checked, so treat it as a popular attribution rather than a documented quotation.
