Cylon Centurion

By your command.

— Battlestar Galactica • 1978

Behind the line

What it means

Our interpretation.

Two flat, mechanical words that tell you everything about the Cylons: they are obedient, tireless and without a doubt in their metal heads. It became the Centurions' signature reply, and it still works as the standard joke for anyone who is about to carry out an order with robotic literalness.

Spoilers for Battlestar GalacticaShow the scene

In the pilot of Battlestar Galactica (ABC, from 17 September 1978), the Cylons spring their trap on the Twelve Colonies of Man. Aboard a Cylon base ship, a chrome Cylon Centurion reports to the Imperious Leader, the reptilian ruler of the Cylon Empire. Answering his orders, the Centurion says "By your command" and reports that the base ships are in range to attack the Colonies. The Imperious Leader announces the final annihilation of mankind and orders the attack to begin. The phrase is the Centurions' standard acknowledgement from then on.
