I thought our story was epic, you know, you and me. / Epic how? / Spanning years and continents. Lives ruined, bloodshed. Epic.

Behind the line

What it means

Our interpretation.

Logan frames his and Veronica's on-off romance as a saga rather than a soap, and the self-mocking list of continents and bloodshed is the joke and the confession at once. Veronica's practical reply sets up his closing line, the show's neatest summary of why the pair keep returning to each other. It also sums up the Logan and Veronica pairing: dramatic, damaged and impossible to leave alone.

Spoilers for Veronica MarsShow the scene

In Veronica Mars season 2, episode 20, "Look Who's Stalking" (25 April 2006), Neptune High's prom has been cancelled after the senior-trip drinking, so Logan Echolls throws his own alternate prom, open only to the 09ers. Veronica turns up, and the two of them end up talking at the edge of the party. Logan tells her he thought their story was epic, spanning years and continents, with ruined lives and bloodshed, and Veronica answers that a relationship should not have to be that hard. His reply is that nobody writes songs about the easy ones, and she leaves.
