Oathbringer · 2017
I will protect those I hate. Even… even if the one I hate most… is… myself.
Behind the line
What it means
Our interpretation.
Teft must extend his protective instinct to someone he has been treating as beyond forgiveness. The oath makes care for himself part of his responsibility to others.

During the attack on Urithiru in Oathbringer chapter 119, Phendorana urges Teft to speak his next oath. His Windrunner Third Ideal makes explicit that the person he most needs to protect may be himself. The pauses and repetitions on the card preserve the difficulty of saying the words.
