The Death of Expertise

Thomas Nichols

These are dangerous times. Never have so many people had so much access to so much knowledge and yet have been so resistant to learning anything.

Behind the line

What it means

Our interpretation.

Access to information and willingness to learn are treated as separate things. The danger comes from their growing apart: having more knowledge within reach does not ensure that people will engage with it. The contrast challenges the comfortable assumption that availability alone produces understanding.
