Commander Shepard

I'm Commander Shepard, and this is my favorite store on the Citadel.

Behind the line

What it means

Our interpretation.

The joke is that the galaxy's greatest hero, the one who stopped Saren, ends up doing shopping endorsements for discounts. The line is delivered straight, which is why it works, and it became a running gag among fans who play Shepard as a walking brand. It captures how Mass Effect balances apocalypse with small, funny moments.

Spoilers for Mass Effect 2Show the scene

In Mass Effect 2 (BioWare, 2010) the Citadel has shops where Commander Shepard can strike deals. Rodam Expeditions, run by Tiron, is one of them: if Shepard saved the Council in the first game, the shopkeeper admires Shepard, and Shepard can record an audio advertisement for the store. The recording says Shepard is Commander Shepard and that this is a favourite store on the Citadel. Wikiquote notes the same recording can be made repeatedly in up to four stores, and the shop offers a 20 percent discount.
