Zuul

There is no Dana, only Zuul.

Behind the line

What it means

Our interpretation.

It is the film's scariest turn: the flirtatious banter drops away and a horror film takes its place. The line replaces a person with a role, and it became fandom shorthand for a possessed friend or for any moment when the person you know is gone.

Spoilers for GhostbustersShow the scene

In Ghostbusters (1984), directed by Ivan Reitman, the demon Zuul, a minion of Gozer, has possessed Dana Barrett in her apartment. When Peter Venkman arrives for what he thinks is a date, Dana greets him as a seductress and says her name is Zuul, 'the Gatekeeper'. Peter keeps asking to speak to Dana until she answers in a monstrous demonic voice, and levitates above her bed. Peter later sedates her. The demonic voice was provided by Reitman himself, while Sigourney Weaver plays the possessed Dana.
