Uh, the animatronic characters here... do get a bit quirky at night, but do I blame them? No.

Behind the line
What it means
Our interpretation.
'Quirky' is a wildly inadequate word for a lethal problem. The caller's sympathy for the machines briefly displaces concern for the person listening. That mismatch turns a routine employee welcome into one of the game's clearest jokes about reassuring language that reassures nobody.

In Five Nights at Freddy's (2014), Phone Guy introduces the animatronics' nighttime behaviour this way in the first recorded call. He follows it by sympathising with performers forced to sing the same songs for years without a bath. The player hears the familiar explanation before discovering how much danger the mild description conceals.
