Behind the line
What it means
Our interpretation.
A tiny public shaming. In four-player Gauntlet food was shared survival and shooting it was a betrayal the game could name aloud, so the announcer's flat statement of fact became a cry of outrage between friends. It is now shorthand for blowing the one resource the whole team needed.

In Gauntlet (Atari Games, arcade 1985) a player's shots cannot hurt the other players, but they can destroy the food that everyone depends on to stay alive. When someone shoots a plate of food, the narrator names the class that did it. The narrator was voiced by Ernie Fosselius, and the line sits among his repeated rule reminders, which include a warning not to shoot food. In four-player games it is the moment the table turns on one player.
