Announcer
Welcome to Summoner's Rift.
— League of Legends · 2009
Behind the line
What it means
Our interpretation.
It is the starting pistol of a match that will eat your evening. Millions of players have heard it so many times that it has become half joke, half password, quoted when anyone joins a chaotic lobby. Its warm, formal tone against the carnage ahead is the point.

Spoilers for League of LegendsShow the scene
When the loading screen clears and a match of League of Legends begins on its main map, the announcer greets the players with this line, recorded in two takes: one bright with an exclamation mark, one flatter. The classic announcer has equivalents for other maps, such as the Twisted Treeline and the Howling Abyss, where a joke variant calls the bridge map the Murder Bridge. League launched on Windows on 27 October 2009, and Summoner's Rift is its first and most popular map: three lanes, waves of minions between two bases, and a Nexus to destroy.
