Engineer

Spy's sappin' my Sentry!

Behind the line

What it means

Our interpretation.

It is the Engineer's whole job in one yelp: the buildings are his family and the Spy is the pest. Because the game fires it automatically, it works as a team-wide alarm, and a hurried 'Spy sappin'' became the standard way to say a Spy is in the base. The drawl does the comedy; panic has never sounded so homely.

Spoilers for Team Fortress 2Show the scene

In Team Fortress 2 (2007) this is the Engineer's automatic warning. When an enemy Spy plants a Sapper on one of his Sentry Guns, the game plays the line by itself, so nearby players hear it without anyone pressing a key; the Engineer has matching calls for a sapped Dispenser and a sapped Teleporter. The sapped building also shows up on the Engineer's HUD, and he can pull the Sapper off with two hits of a melee weapon (three with the Jag). In the game the Engineer, Dr. Dell Conagher of Bee Cave, Texas, is voiced by Grant Goodeve.
