M'aiq the Liar

M'aiq knows much, tells some. M'aiq knows many things others do not.

Behind the line

What it means

Our interpretation.

M'aiq advertises knowledge and withholds it in the same breath. Even the title 'the Liar' makes it hard to know what kind of authority to grant him. That uncertainty is the pleasure of the encounter: a passing traveller may sound wiser, sillier or better informed than the official experts.

M'aiq the Liar introduces his peculiar knowledge with this line in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion (2006). The wandering Khajiit's remarks mix information, jokes and evasions during roadside encounters. Oblivion's version omits the 'and' that appears in the similar introduction used by M'aiq in Skyrim.
