Peasant

Job's done!

— Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos ‧ 2002

Behind the line

What it means

Our interpretation.

It is the sound of a dutiful, slightly resentful worker clocking off, and a whole generation of RTS players hear it as the heartbeat of a build order. Fans pair it with the Peasant's "More work?" and "Off I go, then!" as a running joke about the Alliance's long-suffering labour force, and the line is quoted as a catchphrase for finishing any tedious task.

Spoilers for Warcraft III: Reign of ChaosShow the scene

In Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos (2002), "Job's done" is what a human Peasant says when he finishes a building. Order a Peasant to raise a farm, barracks or town hall and, once the structure is complete, he turns to the player and delivers the line in a weary, put-upon voice. It is not a character's speech in a scene but the Alliance worker's job-complete sound cue, heard hundreds of times in an ordinary match. The wording goes back to Warcraft II, where the Peasant already says it; in the first Warcraft (Orcs & Humans) the equivalent cue was the stiffer "Work completed." The orc Peon has its own, different completion line.
