Orc Peon

Me not that kind of orc!

— Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos ‧ 2002

Behind the line

What it means

Our interpretation.

The joke is the Peon's wounded dignity: a green-skinned labourer, poked one time too many, answers as if he had been propositioned, and the innuendo makes the whole Horde sound like a village of exasperated tradesmen. It is a gag built into the unit's voice set for anyone who keeps clicking.

The line belongs to the orc Peon, the worker unit of the Horde in Blizzard's real-time strategy games. In Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos (July 2002) a Peon who is clicked over and over loses his patience, and the game cycles through his 'pissed' lines: a whaaat, a plea to be left alone because he is busy, a complaint that there is no time for play, and finally this one, a prim refusal that he is not that kind of orc. The Peon is voiced by Bill Roper, then a Blizzard producer and executive. It is a joke the player earns by poking a worker who is meant to be mining gold, with no scene, mission or listener in the story.
