Behind the line

What it means

Our interpretation.

It is the proud answer to the baby line above it: a menu choice that doubles as a boast. Picking it means asking to be killed fast and often, and it still reads as a dare. The phrase stuck as the top-tier name in later Wolfenstein games and as a way to say you play on the hardest setting.

Spoilers for Wolfenstein 3DShow the scene

This names the hardest of the four difficulty levels in Wolfenstein 3D (id Software, 1992). Players choose it from the menu before starting an episode, and on it enemies such as mutants, fake Hitlers and the bosses have more hit points than on the lower settings. Its neighbours are "Can I play, Daddy?", "Don't hurt me." and the default "Bring 'em on!". Return to Castle Wolfenstein kept it, and Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus lists it among seven levels, below the hidden "Mein leben" setting that unlocks after beating the game.
