It's fine Scottish weather we're having. The rain is falling straight down and kind of to the side like.

Behind the line
What it means
Our interpretation.
Calling the weather fine clashes with the description of rain blowing sideways. The cheerful opening turns bad conditions into a dry joke. The added detail about the rain's direction makes the praise harder to take at face value.
