We had different needs. I needed him to treat me decently and get a job, and he needed to empty my bank account.

Behind the line
What it means
Our interpretation.
This is a wry account of a mismatched relationship. The speaker wanted decent treatment and a job from him, while he wanted to empty the bank account. Calling that different needs is the joke, dressing up plain betrayal in polite, therapy-style language.
