What it means

Our interpretation.

It is a whole worldview in three words: a man content with the car, the weed and the next pretty face. McConaughey made it his calling card, and it carried a small supporting role into a career. Fans say it as a lazy, approving greeting.

Spoilers for Dazed and ConfusedShow the scene

In Richard Linklater's Dazed and Confused (1993), set on the last day of school in 1976, David Wooderson is a twenty-something who still hangs around the high schoolers. His first scene, in which he invites the freshman boys to the keg party, was the first one Matthew McConaughey filmed. McConaughey remembered a live recording of Jim Morrison saying all right four times and worked out the line from that, for the fourth of the four things he decided Wooderson cares about: his car, getting high, rock and roll and girls. It became a catchphrase for both actor and character.
